New art gallery opens in Motueka
January 31st, 2013
Resurgence Coffee and Retrotonic have created an art gallery at their premises on the corner of High and King Edward streets, for use by local artists to exhibit their works.
The owners, William And Anne-Marie Cleaver, have already converted the building into an innovative coffee house (serving Resurgence coffee) and a showroom for a wide and interesting range of retro products from yesteryear, attracting plenty of business particularly from tourists.
Now they have created a gallery space and a group called the Resurgence Arts Gallery Society, or RAGs. The gallery occupies 164 square metres of floor space, with 94 square metres of walls for displayed artwork.
William says this make RAGs possibly one of the largest galleries in the Nelson area. "We are open for expressions of interest from articts for exhibition and or displayed work," he says.
The current exhibition is the Ephemera Obscura work by Gemma Proebst (pictured), Tomas Richards and Goldie Walker, which will be on display until February 7th.
