It's time again for the Big Beach Cleanup in preparation for the season when our beaches are showcased to thousands of tourists who appreciate our clean environment.
This is the opportunity for businesses, community and recreational groups, families and individuals to do their bit as part of a fun day out and do something positive for this beautiful area we are privileged to live in.
The Department of Conservation's Big Beach Cleanup, run in conjunction with Tasman and Nelson councils, will be held on Saturday, November 9th.
Over the past four hears the annual coastal cleanup has seen an average of about 50 groups participating from Cable Bay to Tonga Island in Abel Tasman National Park - over 300 kms.
Unfortunately they have been collecting around 7 tonnes of rubbish each year, so this event remains very worthwhile.
Participants can choose a section of the beach to clean up, from those not already chosen, and you check the list and register .
For any inquiries, contact Janice Gravett, Big Beach Cleanup Coordinator, at or .

I endeavour to do a daily clean up when I take my dog for her walk down at the Raumanukas. Just about every day I collect at least half a "doggy doo" bag of broken glass, some times rusty cans and bits of plastic. However recently I have been going down to Beach road and walking along the track or beach. I was appalled at the amount of broken glass and china down there. In three days I collected three bags of glass - mostly small bits. Maybe the good folk looking at doing the beach cleanup this year could look at that part of the beach.
