Celebrated cook takes on local food challenge
February 25th, 2013
Motueka Library and the Motueka Community Gardens have challenged well-known local author and chef Chris Fortune to transform a mystery box of fresh produce into tasty treats to share.
The challenge, to begin at 5.30pm on Tuesday March 12th, is a great opportunity for the Library to highlight NZ Book Month, and for the Community Gardens to promote simple, healthy eating.
The box of ingredients will be picked from whatever is ready to harvest and eat at the Old Wharf Road community gardens on the day.
Chris (pictured right) will also talk about his two published books. A confident presenter of all things seasonal and regional, he is the current Chairperson of Farmers' Markets New Zealand and the Marlborough Community Gardens.
Since winning New Zealand Hell's Kitchen in May 2003, he has received many promotional opportunities from his involvement with local food production and community groups.
He has run extensive workshops and training programmes nationwide for market organisers, conferences, businesses, hospitality events, public speaking, cooking demonstrations and product launches.
After running restaurants for the last 18 years he is now enjoying helping his wife raise their two children. Chris was raised in Motueka but is now based in Marlborough.
