Motueka to host sheep breeders conference

April 23rd, 2013

Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park will be the host venue in two weeks for the AGM and national conference of the Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders Association of New Zealand.

The event will also include a woolcraft fleece seminar for interested spinners, weavers and felters, as well as a display, open to the public, of sheepskins and the entries to the craft competition run by the association, including the open class - Novelty Tea Pot Cosy.

The seminar topics covered include explaining the characteristics of fleeces from a variety of different breeds of sheep; skirting a fleece for handcraft use; and what to look for when selecting a fleece for a craft project.

It will be held on Friday 10th May at the holiday park's Conference Centre starting at 10am. It is open to the public, with a charge of $5.00 per person, including morning tea.

The top coloured fleeces, entered in the BCSBA NZ National Fleece Competition, will be displayed in the nearby Channel Arts Centre. These fleeces are of many different breeds and from throughout the country, and most are available for sale.

During the conference, a slideshow of Motueka's landscapes and features, created by Vision Motueka thanks to local photographers, will be displayed to give visitors a good idea of what the town offers.

For more information on the conference, contact local organiser Shirley Wallace at or email . The Channel Arts Centre will be open to the public from 11.30am to 5pm on the Friday 10th and 10am to 5pm on Saturday 11th May.
