Free Expo for fundraisers returns
May 20th, 2013
[Press release]
The Nelson-Tasman free Funding Expo is back and bigger than ever, aiming again to help provide people with the skills to manage, fund and grow their not-for-profit organisations.
The Expo team, which includes representatives from Volunteer Nelson, Tasman District Council, Arts Council Nelson, Nelson City Council, Sport Tasman and Department of Internal Affairs, have organised another full day of information, training and networking for volunteers and workers involved in the not-for-profit sector.
This is the seventh year the Expo has been held, and it is now seen as a reliable one-stop shop for community groups, charities, event organisers, schools and sports clubs reliant on grants and fundraising.
"We have some new and exciting workshops this year including Liam Ryan, Festival Director of the Woollaston Jazz and Blues Festival, who will provide insight into planning the funding for and delivery of public events, including community versus corporate relationship building and developing strategic partnerships with sponsors," says co-organiser, Councillor Judene Edgar.
"Tina Reid, Executive Director of the NZ Foundation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations, and TechSoup will also be there to discuss keeping up with IT and fundraising strategies."
Attendees will also be able to attend workshops that offer inside information into finding sources of funding through the Funding Information Service, provide insight into potential charity fatigue in Nelson, some dos and don'ts for successful grant applications from Canterbury Community Trust's new CEO Louise Edwards, and receive tips and advice from Charities Services.
In addition there will be displays from Fundraising Institute of New Zealand, Charities Services, local councils, Sport Tasman, Department of Internal Affairs, Nelson Arts Council and others, offering participants the opportunity to talk directly to funders and service providers that support the not-for-profit sector.
The free Funding Expo is on Friday 7th June at the Hope Community Church on Ranzau Road opposite Ranzau School. Doors open at 8.30am. Workshops run from 9.30am - 3.00pm. Entry is free.
There will be a cafe with quality handmade snacks, meals and beverages during the lunch break. Cash purchases only. If people would like more information they can contact Volunteer Nelson on (03) or go to www.itson.co.nz. Or view the expo programme here.
