Views of recent migrants sought for project

February 18th, 2013

Calling people who were born overseas and who have recently settled in the Tasman region - your viewpoints are sought for a focus group on your experiences.

Brigid Ryan is working on a project for migrants living in Tasman. Part of the project is holding focus groups for migrants.

The findings from the focus groups will go into a "Settling In Tasman" report which will then be available for local and central government agencies as well as community organisations, to help them be more aware of the increasing diversity in our community.

The project is happening in other parts of New Zealand and is part of the Ministry of Social Development.

In 2006, census showed that Nelson Tasman was the third most diverse region in New Zealand after Auckland and Wellington. That is, it has the third-highest percentage of people who were born overseas.

Brigid says it will be very interesting to find out the results of the census on 5 March this year.

Any newcomer to the region who was born overseas, and who is interested in being part of a focus group, can contact Brigid Ryan on or email .
