Opening ceremony for Great Taste cycle trail

January 18th, 2013

The first stage of the Great Taste cycle trail that will soon extend out to Motueka, Riwaka and Kaiteriteri and up the valley, will be officially opened next Saturday at a ceremony at the new Waimea Cycle Bridge, near Richmond.

Cyclist from around the Tasman and Nelson district are invited to gather for a breakfast or brunch with one of the trail's official partners, then ride in convoys to the ceremony, which will begin at 11am on January 26th.

A barbecue and refreshments will be available, and a toll will operate on the bridge for a gold coin donation on the day. Riders can then go on to explore the "Food & Beverage" trail further for a late lunch or cruisy afternoon, then book a cycle shuttle for later in the day to return to their starting points.

The official partners in and around Motueka are Sprig & Fern Tavern, Riverside Café and Jesters Café. The opening ceremony is hosted by the Tasman District Council and Nelson Tasman Cycle Trails Trust.
