Loads of activities for school holiday break

December 16th, 2013

The long Christmas-New Year school holiday period has begun, and Sport Tasman is advertising plenty of activities to help children to use the break constructively.

Most of these activities and programmes are organised from the Recreation Centre, so if you want to find out more just phone them at .

The Motueka High School pool opens on 23rd December daily from 1pm - 4pm, except on statutory holidays, until the end of January. Anyone can swim for only $3.00.

Roller Skating continues at the Recreation Centre over summer from the 23rd December. Times are Mondays to Fridays 12pm-3pm and Saturdays 9.30am-12pm. Cost is $3 entry or $5 if hiring skates.

The Recreation Centre is also running a Kiwiflyers programme for 5 to 13 year olds, on 23rd and 24th December and from 6th to 31st January. Activities include MotRock, Amazing Race, Movies & Munchies, Big Bake off, Science Alive, Tahuna beach trip and much more.

Their Adventure Plus programme is for 10 to 13 year olds and runs from 20th - 24th January with lots of fun trips organised - Kaiteriteri Adventures, Bridge Valley Adventures and a Quinney's Bush overnighter.

Then for skateboarders and BMX riders the Council is running again this summer the Tasman Skatepark Tour. It will expand this year, with eight competitions scheduled over January and more than $5,000 of prizes on offer. The Motueka heat will be held on Saturday 18th January from 2-4pm.

Adults can take part in free Entry Level Activity Groups in Motueka, through the Get Moving activity groups with Sarah from Sport Tasman.

These include jogging for walkers who are looking for a little bit more of a challenge; walking focusing on the social and enjoyment aspects of walking rather than speed and distance; and cycling to gain confidence on your bike with a friendly, relaxed group around the Motueka region. For more info contact Sarah on .

And for more gentile activities, there's always the New World teddy bears picnic, to be held on January 26th at Decks Reserve from 10am to 1pm.
