Floral artists to showcase their skills
August 12th, 2013

"Let the flowers sing" is the theme for the Motueka Floral Art Circle's fifth fundraising variety performance for the Nelson Cancer Society.
Held on Saturday 31 August starting at 1.30pm in the Motueka Memorial Hall, the two-hour show will feature visiting and local floral designers and performers.
The past shows have raised just over $7,000 to contribute to the Daffodil Day appeals as well as entertaining the audience.
This year the show will feature Roseanne Armstrong from Richmond demonstrating sculptural designs. Roseanne, pictured right, has been working on structures made from grape prunings, embellished with metals and flowers.
This is good use of local materials. Roseanne's great sense of humour is always freely added to her performance.
Jan Holt of Hira likes to use freely obtained material, willow and flaxes with the exotic along with the daffodils.
The other visiting demonstrator will be Barbara Higgins of Marlborough. Barbara is on the management board of the Floral Art Society of NZ and won Nelson Marlborough Designer of the Year twice.
Local designers are Pam Canton and Shirley Frater. The variety performance will have a few surprises as well.
The Memorial Hall, with the newly installed heating system, lighting and sound technical management from Mark Wentworth and assistants, all adds to the entertainment.
This year Floral Art Club members from Marlborough, Buller, Nelson and Waimea will display designs in the hall for the audience to view before the performance.
Tickets costing $20.00 are available at Westrupp Jewellers or at the door. Daffodills will be on sale at the end of the performance.
