St Andrews minister to leave next year
August 6th, 2013
[by David Armstrong]
A year after the loss of use of their beloved church due to earthquake vulnerability, the St Andrews Uniting parish have been further saddened to hear that their minister, Rev Peter Norman, will be leaving next year.
Peter has taken up the challenge - perhaps his final one before retiring - of a new parish, this time in Takapuna in Auckland. He says that as an itinerant minister he felt it was right that he work where required. He will leave here in June 2014.
As well as his work leading the parish, Peter has been prominent in Motueka community activities. With his wife Lynnette he came to Motueka in 2008. Apart from her support work within the church, Lynnette is well known in her customer service role at New World supermarket.
Peter has led the Collaboration of Agencies group, and chairs the trust which runs the busy Family Service Centre. He is on the committee of the Short Term Accommodation Trust (night shelter) and is a community representative at restorative justice conferences.
He has also tried hard (without much success) to establish some sort of affordable housing initiative in Motueka. He says he learns a lot about what's happening in the community through these sorts of groups.
Motueka Online profiled him in the "Our people" section of this website, so you can read more about his life by clicking here.
Peter says Motueka has been very good to him and he's been enjoying his time here. And when it does become time for him to retire, returning to settle in Motueka is certainly a strong option at this stage.
