Blathwayt printing business changes hands
April 3rd, 2013
[by David Armstrong]
Award-winning local signwriting business Image Creators has purchased Blathwayt Print Ltd, the well-known printing company beside the Decks Reserve car park.
Image Creators creative director Andy Lowe says the purchase gives his business - now named name Imagecreators & Printing.com - the opportunity to expand by adding to his design and branding work the printing services and the Printing.com franchise which Blathwayt has offered.
Image Creators is a design and signwriting company which has been operating since 2006, based in the owners' home in Riwaka. It is run by Andy and his wife Jody (pictured right), who will take over the customer relations work and the print side of the expanded business.
After 13 years in business Stuart and Diane Blathwayt have decided they would like a change and have sold the firm. In a press release they thanked Motueka people for their custom over the last few years.
Image Creators supplies total branding solutions with visual impact, including logo design, stationery and brochures to business cards, digital signage, shop signage, outdoor signs, hand lettering, vehicle graphics and full vehicle wraps.
Andy says about 90 per cent of their work is in Motueka, with some also in Golden Bay, Mapua and Nelson. "We want to educate Motueka people that they simply don't need to go to Nelson for their signage or design work to get a great job - it's available here in Motueka already.
"We apply creative design principles and use our philosophy of 'thinking beyond the boundaries' to create the best visual image for your business.
"Since I can remember I have looked at design in all its visual forms and admired the creativity behind beautiful imagery. This admiration drives my passion for creating great signage.
"Since my early years as a signwriting apprentice and before the days of computers and digital printing, I have enjoyed learning about design and applying these principles to my work. As technology has advanced over the years, these principles and new techniques have helped me create imagery that I have been proud to deliver to my customers."
The business changed hands yesterday, and will still offer all the same services customers have been receiving from Blathwayt - all types of digital and offset printing and copying through the Printing.com franchise.
"But for us its an exciting opportunity to expand the business and offer more services to existing and new customers," says Andy. "We will be a one-stop advertising and marketing shop."
Until now Blathwayt has sub-contracted some of its design work to Image Creators so there is an existing relationship between the two operations.
Andy is donating his design and consulting services for free to Vision Motueka to help create the nine-part set of Motueka Murals, the first of which will start next month.
