Resurgence coffee business up for sale

July 2nd, 2013
[by David Armstrong]

One of Motueka's better known small businesses, Resurgence Riwaka Roasting, is on the market, and the owner William Cleaver hopes a buyer will continue to sell its fair trade coffee products.

Resurgence moved from its Riwaka shop into Motueka last year to an interesting new fit-out at the clock tower corner, and William worked hard to encourage locals and tourists to see that corner of town as a small entertainment hub.

His wife, Ann Marie, had her own business called Retronic, trading retro clothing and houseware from the same location, and early this year William opened a gallery space for local artists.

Recently Retronic closed its retail space and moved to selling online only, and about the same time William decided to close the art gallery due to lack of interest.

However, roasting and making coffee was William's main love, and he says he will be available to train the new owner or owners in the craft. "I hope to stay on or be contactable for advice on their requirements as valued customers," he said. William has been a coffee roaster and coffee consultant for the past 22 years.

"The decision to sell has come about due to some heath problems and the need to have Resurgence Coffee grow. Let's face it, we are not getting any younger."

He said Resurgence Coffee has received fantastic support from the cafes, distributors, mail order accounts and the general public over the past six years.

"I hope this will continue for the next six. If anyone is interested in this fantastic business, let us know. In the meantime we will continue to operate at our best ensuring that you the customer receives the best coffee money can buy."
