Social media buzzing with sharp Motueka talk

July 2nd, 2013
[by David Armstrong]

Motueka's social media websites are buzzing with talk about the three-minute item on TV One's Seven Sharp programme last night which featured the reasons why Motueka is New Zealand's sharpest town. (See our earlier story here.)

The episode, the first of five this week about the five finalist towns in the vote-based competition, was a rapid-fire combination of video clips taken last week and in earlier TV visits to Motueka.

Three of the many people spoken to by the film crew ended up with sound-bite interviews being shown, including Terri Everett who initiated Motueka's entry into the competition, Tara Forde and Ron Sharp.

Although extensive filming was done at several locations, the community gardens was chosen as the anchor setting for interviews and several action shots.

One can guess the reason was that the gardens are looking very green and industrious at present, and they demonstrate the Motueka area as an attractive, fertile and productive place with down-to-earth, clever people.

Broadband users can view the whole video by clicking here.

This morning the Facebook pages of many Motueka people were alive with comments by others about how awesome the town is, including from many who have visited int he past on holidays or were brought up in Motueka but have moved elsewhere.

On Friday the Seven Sharp programme will tell us how voting will take place, so we hope all who enjoy the town will do their bit to add to the "Best Town in New Zealand" award we won two years ago.

The winning town of the five finalists will be the venue for presenting one complete half-hour Seven Sharp show shortly. With such a large daily audience, such a show would be a huge boost for the town's profile nationally and internationally. Terri Everett is to be thanked for taking the initiative and organising the bid.

By 3pm today there were already over 1100 "likes", 161 shares and 375 comments on the Seven Sharp facebook page.
