Library 'Hook Up' celebrations during Youth Week
May 2nd, 2013
The final random books were taken home by teens at the end of the holidays, and now the rush is on to get ratings slips in for the prize draws being held during Youth Week.
Hundreds of teenagers have 'hooked up' across the region with this popular promotion in the Tasman District Libraries. Random books have been read, rated on an entry slip and then returned for the prize draws.
"It's been great to see teenagers who might not normally come into the library - we've even had new members join us just so they could take part in the Hook Up," says Tasman District Libraries Manager Glennis Coote.
"Some staff had comments from teens that they would never have picked their random book themselves but the surprise was worth it. Now they're excited about exploring some of these new writers and genres further."
The Hook Up promotion has been open to all college-age teens, and winners of the book vouchers from Paper Plus and Take Note will be announced at the finale celebrations this week.
The library celebrations will include food and book talk and be held in Motueka at 5pm on Wednesday 8 May, Richmond at 3:45pm on Thursday 9 May, and Takaka at 3:45pm on Friday 10 May.
