Time to nominate voluntary groups for awards
April 1st, 2013
The call goes out for nominations of community volunteer groups that you think should be recognised at the prestigious annual TrustPower Community Awards.
The awards are run in 25 regions around New Zealand, in conjunction with local district or city councils, to recognise and reward the outstanding contribution voluntary groups and organisations make in our communities.
Any voluntary group or volunteer-based not-for-profit organisation is eligible for the Awards, which recognise past achievements or work undertaken by volunteers over the previous 12 months. In Nelson and Tasman, nominations are already open and will close on May 17th.
The Awards cover five categories: Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development.
Anyone can enter a voluntary group or not-for-profit organisation for the Awards - and it only takes a few minutes of your time to submit a nomination. Voluntary groups and organisations can even enter themselves.
You can make your nomination online at this page. You will also need to fill in an information form about the nominee, which you can download from a link on this page.
A panel made up of representatives from the local community, the two councils and TrustPower will judge the entries, based on set criteria including voluntary input, effectiveness of activities and the impact on the district.
Run in conjunction with these awards is the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award. This is open to all Year 13 students to recognise and reward service to their school and community. The winner receives a certificate and $500 prize money - $250 to keep themselves and $250 to donate to a voluntary group or organisation of their choice.
Motueka groups such as Keep Motueka Beautiful have figured in recent TrustPower awards, so now is the time for our folk to tell the judges about the great work done by volunteers in our town.
