Floral artists preparing for bigger spring event
May 29th, 2012
[by Shirley Frater]
We're only on the threshold of winter, but already the Motueka Floral Art Circle are preparing for an exciting new fundraising event to celebrate the arrival of spring.
On the first day of spring, Saturday September 1st, the Floral Art Circle will hold a fundraising event for the Cancer Society in Motueka Memorial Hall. The 2pm floral art demonstration this year will feature "Booby Traps and Daffodils" along with designer "Horti-couture" garments.
The official Daffodil collection day is the 31st August and the 1st of September is an opportunity to sit back, have a few laughs and enjoy the show.
With the Memorial Hall stage having a huge make-over, the venue has more lighting, improved heating, new curtains and backstage space for this year's theme.
This is the fourth year the group have staged an event to raise money. From the last three events, just on $5000 has been donated to the Motueka Cancer Society. (See our story about last year's event here.)
With support from designers Roseanne Armstrong of Richmond and Jan Holt of Hira, the Motueka members will demonstrate designs on stage and have some things already created for viewing.
Sales table and raffles help to boost the funds. While expenses to stage the show this year will be greater, floral art members trust that more public will support the event, allowing them to give a generous donation again this year.
The 2pm - 3.30pm show time will allow for students and working people to attend. Ticket prices are $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Tickets will be on sale in August at Westrupps Jewellers Motueka.
