A & P adds knitting fundraiser to show schedule
September 26th, 2012
The Motueka A & P Association is introducing an innovative competition / fundraising event at its annual show in December - knitting blankets and clothing for Operation Cover-up.
Operation Cover-Up is an international community operation in which volunteers provide clothing and blankets to orphanages in Romonia, Ukraine and Muldovia, through folk in the community knitting or sewing suitable garments. It has been very active in Motueka (see our earlier story on this).
The A & P Assoc has decided to get behind this worthy cause by offering classes at this years A & P Show, set down for Sunday 9th December, for anyone wishing to make items for Operation Cover-Up. The items will be judged prior to the show, and then be on display on show day, and then sent overseas. There are classes for individuals as well as groups.
Schools and Early Childhood Centres are also encouraged to enter. Cargotech, a Christchurch crane company, is very kindly donating $100 to each of the winning schools.
Items suitable for entry include beanies, gloves, socks, ponchos, slippers, pyjamas, jerseys and blankets. They should be made of wool, polarfleece or similair. Summer dresses are also welcome.
There will be a cup awarded to the Group, Club or Resthome who provides the best collection of items.
For anyone wishing to contribute, and needing wool, material or advice, Val Nelson () or Faith Wells () are the folk to call. For more information about how to donate items/enter, watch for the show schedule coming out soon, or contact the Show Secretary, Trish Pamer, ph 03 or email .
Motueka A & P Assoc is very proud to be supporting Operation Cover-Up, and is hoping that the sewers and knitters of Motueka and the surrounding area will get in behind this. Imagine if you and your friends each made one item .... the difference you could make!
