Memorial Hall swings to big jazz band music
July 26th, 2012
It was a full house at Memorial Hall on Tuesday night as three local jazz bands joined forces to belt out jazz favourites under the direction of New Zealand jazz legend Rodger Fox.
The event, which was the culmination of a three-day workshop led by Rodger and held at Teapot Valley, featured the jazz bands of Motueka High School, Nelson College for Girls and the Nelson Jazz Club. The hall was arranged in a cabaret-style setting.
A Motueka Online reader tells us that right from the 7pm start the hall was full, with people as well as with the vibrant, big sound, and the newly revamped hall facilities helped provide a magic experience.
Each of the participating bands performed for their own segment, and then combined at the end for a big sound. Many people attending were up dancing to the beat.
The event was initiated by Hilary Sinclair, our High School's head of music, who had long wanted to hold a combined big band event in Motueka.
