3D cinema arrives at Motueka

December 4th, 2012

3D cinema has arrived in Motueka with the successful installation of a new digital projector at the State Cinema in Old Wharf Road.

Cinema managers say the system is working well and 3D sessions have been scheduled from Thursday 27th. Furthermore, the system does not require movie-goers to purchase the glasses.

Glasses are handed out freely at each session and must return them as you leave. Management asks that you don't bring glasses you may have purchased at Nelson in the past as they will not work.

State Cinema's standard 2D prices are unchanged and the ticket price for 3D will be $3 above the standard price. Prices are: Adults 2D $11.00, $13.50 after 5pm; 3D $14.00, $16.50 after 5pm. Seniors (65+) 2D $8.50; 3D $11.50. Children (under 16) 2D $8.00; 3D $11.00. Students 2D $10.50, $12.00 after 5pm; 3D $13.50, $15.00 after 5pm.

Management says the changes that have taken place also mean that the cinema can screen movies on their release date, no longer having to wait for a hand-me-down copy.

"We appreciate the support our customers have given us over the years and are pleased to be able to offer you a state-of-the-art cinema that Motueka can be proud of," says Linda.

Meanwhile, Motueka's other cinema, the privately owned boutique Gecko Theatre, is celebrating its 10th birthday by charging only $9.00 for any screening until the end of the year.

The Gecko has two auditoriums: a spacious and air conditioned 35-seat theatre and a cute and intimate 10-seat theatre. With couches, armchairs, footrests and coffee tables, it offers a relaxed comfortable setting to enjoy the best high definition festival quality feature films and documentaries from around the world and New Zealand.
