Local phone directory a great Lioness fundraiser

November 23rd, 2012
[by David Armstrong]

The Motueka Lionesses have released their biggest annual fundraising product, the Motueka & Districts Telephone Directory, thanks to amazing support from local businesses.

This is the sixth edition of the A4-sized directory, which includes all the domestic and business addresses and phone numbers found in Telecom's standard directory but using a print size which is readable by eyes of all ages.

It also has a large number of local commercial advertisers, making it easier to find businesses and organisations locally.

The directory costs $7 and 1000 copies have been printed, of which more than 300 have already been sold. Copies can be purchased from Paper Plus, Take Note, Blathwayt Print or any Lioness member.

The sales plus advertising fees will cover the production costs, with most of the profits this year going to the Motueka Community Patrol.

The Lionesses have been one of the most successful fundraising organisations in Motueka. This year they raised about $8000 for the new Link Park boardwalk, and in the past have given generously from directory sales to organisations including Riding for the Disabled and the Motu Weka Neighbourhood Centre.

The main organiser of the directory project, June Cross, says local businesses have been hugely supportive with their advertising, which makes up about half of the book. Advertising fees range from $120 for a quarter-page space upward.

She also thanks Blathwayt Printing staff for the large amount of assistance provided in entering the directory information and in making up advertisements for businesses.
