Gardening advice and skills training offered
June 23rd, 2012
Motueka gardeners will soon be able to draw on the expertise of local food gardening expert Grant Douglas through a council-supported Garden Advice and Skill Training Service.
Under the scheme, Grant will visit people in their garden to advise them on anything they want to know regarding gardening, such as vege garden location, tomato training, etc, and to teach them skills, like grape pruning, that they would like to learn.
Grant has been well known in the district for many years now, and in the past has been heavily involved in work at Riverside and more recently getting the Motueka Community Gardens going. He has his own nursery and retail sales business in Trewavas Street.
The service will not include doing the actual gardening work for those requesting help, just advice and teaching skills. The payment for the service to the clients will be a mileage charge of 30c/km, plus a koha.
Alternatively they can ring Grant and get advise on the phone at no charge. His after-hours phone number is , or people can leave a message at the Community House during the day on .
Beginning early in July, this is a trial for two months to see how it goes.
