Children's Day next project for Vision Motueka
October 20th, 2012
Vision Motueka will help organise Children's Day 2013 and annually thereafter, making it the fourth official project to be undertaken of the recently formed civic improvement group.
Children's Day is a non-commercial annual day founded in 2000, with the aim of celebrating and nurturing our children. It is held in many places in New Zealand on the first Sunday of March, and was promoted for the first time in Motueka this year. (See our report here.)
The organiser that time, Linda Glew, is also a member of Vision Motueka and the group decided that the two operating together could make an even more successful and inclusive day together using the resources of Vision Motueka's expanding network.
Through an organising group of six to eight people, they will promote and plan a set of low-cost or no-cost activities that engage children of all ages. This should set a platform for building annual neighbourhood events for children and activities for neighbourhoods.
They hope to engage sports groups, schools, churches, community and voluntary groups, the library and Recreation Centre, local businesses and neighbourhoods in this event - and to highlight that Motueka is a great place for children and families.
If anyone would like to offer to help work with Vision Motueka to prepare for this event, please contact Linda via Strengthening Families on or or call David at .
Vision Motueka is already actively involved in three civic projects - developing a concept and proposal for a Motueka community hub, organising the design and painting a series of murals on commercial building walls in High Street, and maintaining the Motueka Online community website.
A proposal for a fifth project, focusing on promotional photographs for the town, is being prepared with the Motueka Camera Club and i-Site.
