Thursday Social Cycling Group takes to the road

March 12th, 2012

A leisurely peloton of local cyclists took to the streets last Thursday morning on a relaxed mini tour of the Riwaka area.

The newly formed Thursday Morning Social Cycling group completed their first ride with five cyclists commencing the ride from behind the Information Centre at 9.30am.

The ride was an easy one because the organiser, Ian Miller, was not sure what sort of varying abilities the riders would have. The group rode along he estuary front to the Raumanuka Reserve where the history of the place was discussed, and then headed out of town to the little harbour at Riwaka which was looking at its most picturesque with the tide at its peak.

From there the two houses recently destroyed by fire at the end of School Road were seen as they headed to a coffee stop at the local café. Suitably fortified, the ride continued along Factory Road, then on to Umukuri Road and back home in time for lunch.

If anyone is interested in joining this relaxed group for older or inexperienced cyclists, just turn up behind the Information center at 9.30 on Thursday morning or phone Ian at . Bring a flask for morning tea. (Next week's ride will be led by Patricia as Ian will be away.)
