Motueka floral artists contribute to NZ conference
May 10th, 2012

Motueka Floral Art Circle members recently participated in the Floral Art Society of NZ conference held in Nelson. The Nelson Marlborough Buller groups organised the many workshops, theatre demonstration, and exhibition.
Exciting designs from all parts of New Zealand made a spectacle for over 300 attendees and the public. Roseanne Armstrong of Richmond, well known in Motueka for supporting the Cancer Daffodil fundraising demonstrations here, and Dorothy Turner from Whakatane gave an outstanding floral theatre performance in the Theatre Royal.
Local women contributed to the opening night with a parade of clothes and accessories to the theme of 'Horti- culture' using plant material. The styles varied from 'Booby-Traps' bras, to street wear, hats, bags and woven flax garments.
Motueka members contributed to the exhibition with several Pavé designs. These were patterned in wooden seed trays rather in the manner of the old sand saucers of our youth. (See photos below.)
Pavé, meaning paved, nowadays uses floral foam to hold the water and is more stable for holding the plant material in a pattern. The boxes, staged low on apple cartons, made a spectacular centre piece for the exhibition.
While any event means a lot of voluntary work, the group was proud to have showcased the local talents and the Nelson, Marlborough and Tasman regions to the visitors.
