Street parade for fire brigade's 100th birthday
October 9th, 2012
The Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade will celebrate its centenary with a street parade on Saturday October 20th from the fire station to Decks Reserve.
The parade will begin at 11.15am, and upon arrival at Decks Reserve at 12.15pm it will be followed by a few hours of family fun. The parade is being supported by Our Town Motueka, which has arranged for the permit to close High Street for the hour.
Young children will enter a colouring competition with the prize being a trip to school in a fire truck. Older ones will be able to try the junior firefighter challenge course, including hose target shooting.
Some will practise the 'get down, get low, get out' message in the Smokehouse, and everyone will get the opportunity to have a good look all over the fire trucks. The Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter will also drop in for a visit.
A sausage sizzle will be on site, and there will be free icecreams and a bouncy castle. The brigade will put on a static display of fire engines, old and current. And kids will enjoy a visit from Flint and Amber.
Of course, the museum is already running an exhibition to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Volunteer Fire Brigade.
