Advisers available for community organisations

March 8th, 2012
[by David Armstrong]

Help is at hand for community organisations which may be having problems dealing with thorny organisational and personal problems that often arise in their work or operating their committee effectively.

Volunteer Nelson's Community Support Service has a team of people who've made their way in the world and offer their expertise and experience to help individuals, committees, Trusts or Boards through problems or difficulties that may be challenging them.

They are offering up to two hours freely, working in a confidential one-to-one situation to help with a variety of issues including finances, funding, mediation, marketing, governance, management, supervision, or work-life balance. If further work is required beyond the two-hour period, this can be negotiated with the adviser.

Volunteer Nelson says its advisers will help organisations and individuals:

  • Develop a learning partnership that is not connected to a performance appraisal
  • Uncover their own answers to challenges and discover new perspectives
  • Identify skills and strategies that will allow them to be more effective in their role
  • Ease their organisation through stages of development or change
  • Access further external assistance and experience if necessary

This partnership is flexible and can work with you for a one-off session, a series of sessions or ongoing monthly support by mutual arrangement.

Volunteer Nelson points out that advisers will not do the work for the people or organisations, but will guide them to a satisfactory outcome. The adviser will in no way be responsible for further action taken by the group.

To find an adviser or obtain more information, email , or download, print and fill out this application form.
