Motueka people with lower limb disability can now enjoy a day at the beach more easily with the availability of two beazch/pool chairs designed to move easily on sand.
Nelson-based CCS Disability Action along with the Access 4 All Forum have purchased the chairs for use at our wonderful local beaches and pools, and even the ski field in winter. The large rubber tyres make treks across the sand much easier for everyone, and they also float in the water.
They are comfortable to sit in and have a safety belt and various extensions to suit adults and children. Both chairs have a front wheel option for easy manoeuvring across sometimes difficult terrain. And one has an extra bonus of a sun shade.
These chairs are easy to assemble and come in their own carry bag which fits comfortably in the boot of a car. CCS Disability Action have these available for use at no cost.
Spokeswoman Donna Smith, who as a wheelchair users has successfully tried out the chairs, says they would like to be able to leave one unit in Motueka for a while if a suitable arrangement can be made with a person or organisation willing to take responsibility for its maintenance and local bookings.
Bookings can be made at the office, 65 Trafalgar Street, Nelson or phone .
