High tea treat as Woodlands residents tell their stories

An event of all events took place during a high tea picnic treat for residents at Woodlands Community Retirement home in Motueka last Wednesday.
Terri Everett, known as the Dream Maker for Abel Tasman weddings and events, was inspired by the fact that her own grandmother would be 100 years old next year and lived in a similar home for 12 years in England.
Terri also wanted to give something back to those in the retirement home who were once active members of our community and wanted to offer more than just a high tea picnic treat.
Having been a teacher aide at St Peter Chanel school a few years ago, she engaged the children to interview some of the residents and hear their stories. The children put a story board together which can now been seen at the BNZ bank in Motueka.
The children also made paper fans and garden party hats that really gave that old fashioned garden party atmosphere.
The five residents who told their stories were Winnie, Kathleen, Marcia, Peggy and Phyllis. Sadly Phillis passed away the weekend before the event and wasn't able to see the party to celebrate her contributions to our community. This highlighted even more how we must cherish each day and the people who came before us and made our town what it is today.
The event was entirely put together by Terri and other small local businesses. Karen from Perfect Style made little flower arrangements for all 60 residents; Rain Drops on Roses supplied a wonderful selection of sweet treats and good old fashioned cakes; Caroline from the Red Pie Shed provided mini pies; and Flaming Hot Catering gave traditional cut sandwiches.
It was quite a spectacle enjoyed by all. Gifts were also donated by Lime and Astrolabe and entertainment from Harmony and Flossie, and even the Marching Veterannettes, and Sabrina the party bus came to complete the day.
Terri would like to thank those who donated their time and products, the staff at Woodlands for putting up with them taking over the home, and of course those residents who have given so much to our community over the years.

What a fabulous event that Terri 'the Dream-maker' spear-headed, with help from so many! It is truly lovely to see such recognition of 'our oldies' and celebration of their stories. I'm sorry I missed the party!
