Nominations open for the Nelson Tasman Youth Volunteer Awards

April 27th, 2011
[Press release]

Know a young person making a difference in our community? Nominations are now open for the Nelson Tasman Youth Volunteer Awards.

Jointly run by Volunteer Nelson, The New Hub, and the Nelson City and Tasman District Youth Councils, the annual awards celebrate the voluntary efforts of young people aged 12 to 25.

Any young person working in a voluntary capacity can be nominated. This can include everything from helping with school drama productions, mentoring and providing peer support, through to helping at the SPCA, tree planting, or coaching sports teams.

Ten awards, split evenly between the Nelson City and Tasman region, will be presented at The New Hub on Thursday 23 June.

Rachael Large, Social Wellbeing Adviser at Nelson City Council, is supporting the Nelson Youth Council in this venture. "The awards are a great opportunity to recognise the huge amount of voluntary work done by young people in our community. They also help to break down some of the stereotypes about young people and how much of a contribution and difference they can make," she says.

Nominations must in by Friday 3rd June. Forms are available from Volunteer Nelson, the New Hub, Council offices and public libraries in the region. Or you can make your nomination on line at www.jamonline.co.nz
