Oldies and goldies to roll out for charity cricket match
March 29th, 2011
The Charity cricket match for Christchurch, postponed from last Sunday 27th due to rain, will now take place on Sunday April 10th at the Motueka High School grounds. The match will be between Phil Donaldson's Demons and Howie Timms' Terrors.
Obviously the purpose of it is to raise funds through the Red Cross for the victims, families and those in general affected in every respect by both the February and September earthquakes. Event originator and organiser Ian Bolton hopes people will come out in force, empty their purses and wallets, and enjoy a laugh at the expense of a few cricketers both current and those of yesteryear, and non cricketers who see the merit of a well warranted event.
Zimmer frames and respiratory devices will be on standby for 'men who are still boys in disguise' among the older participants, and thankfully St John will have a presence on the day to administer first aid to the pretender.
The match will begin at 10 o'clock, and an all-day BBQ and food and drink stalls will cater for those requirements. Being at the high school, no alcohol will be allowed. Bring your chairs, picnic baskets and refreshments.
On-going raffles will be running throughout the day thanks to the support of local firms who have donated 'bucks and booty' vouchers for wine etc to ensure that the coffers have a substantial look at the end of the day. Sturgeon's Amusements and Percy the Train will be there for the kids.
Teams as of Thursday are:
Demons: Phil Donaldson (c), Dave Neal, David Ogilvie, John Inglis, Bob Brereton, Will Snowden, Vince Bloomfield, Stephen Stout, Peter Fry, Grant Heney, Ian Bolton, Kendall Riley, and one MHS player.
Terrors: Howie Timms (c), Jock Edwards, Terry Frater, Grant Inglis, Bill Curtain, Bruce Miller, Steve Greaney, Kevin Krammer, David Armstrong, Damien O'Connor, Rob Crawford, Glen Taylor.
Golden Oldie rules will apply for the 13-man teams. Bowlers will have three overs each (one gets an extra over to bring it up to 40 overs a side), batsmen will be not out until they have scored at least one run, no LBWs, and the maximum score for any batsman will be 30 after which they must retire (but they may return if the innings ends before 40 overs).
