Vinnies making blankets to ward off the cold
June 22nd, 2011
Are you interested in helping people in need keep warm this winter? The Vinnies are launching a community-based Peggy Square project to create blankets for people in our local community to remain snug and warm over these cold Winter months.
The work of sewing together donated peggy squares to make colourful blankets is being done in both Nelson and Motueka. The Vinnies - young members of the St Vincent de Paul charity associated with the Catholic Church - are looking for people who can either knit peggy squares or donate 4mm (old size 8) knitting needles and double knit / 8 ply wool to this project.
For those keen to knit peggy squares, the squares need to be 40 stitches by 80 rows. They can be dropped into the office of St Peter Chanel School in High Street.
If they can get sufficient support, extra blankets will be sent to needy people down in Christchurch.
If you have any queries or wish to find out further information, please don't hesitate to contact Philippa Winch, St. Vincent de Paul Vinnies Youth Co-ordinator, either by e-mailing her on email@example.com or by phone on 03 544 1973.
