Perfect weather for happy Teddy Bears Picnic

January 23rd, 2011
[by David Armstrong]

Ideal weather and the perfect setting drew dozens of happy families and over 200 people to Thorp Bush on Saturday to the New World-sponsored Teddy Bears Picnic, to relax, play and celebrate the joy of the world of children.

With the sun not yet beating down with afternoon strength and the large trees surrounding the picnic area and providing shade for those with more sensitive skin, families spread their rugs and showed off their favourite teddy bears - big ones and small, plain brown ones and some fancy-dressed ones. Children's music mixed with the calls of the tuis from atop the surrounding trees.

For the kids there were the usual games, the parachute, mini ferris wheel, bouncy castle and face painting (assisted by Batman and Little Red Riding Hood), while the adults enjoyed chatting with friends and watching their little 'uns playing happily and safely.

Here are some photos we took during the event.
