WINZ offers self-serve computers to clients
October 8th, 2011
Work and Income Service Centres are making it easier for people to access services and assistance. Self-service kiosks are now installed in most centres in the region, including at Community Link in Motueka, offering one-click access to job vacancy sites, websites to help build CVs and applications for Work and Income assistance.
Anyone is welcome to use the kiosks and people who are job hunting but don't have a computer at home can also set up a Hotmail or Yahoo account so that they can give employers other contact options.
The distinctive blue kiosks have easy-to-follow instructions to help people find the information they need and with printers also attached to the computers, they can also print off the information they need.
Work and Income Regional Director Wendy Chisnall says the introduction of kiosks will cut down on people having to make return visits because they don't have all the necessary information.
"For example, with some applications we need to see a client's annual earnings. If they have an online account with Inland Revenue, they can go to the kiosk, find the information they need and print it out straightaway using a nearby linked printer," she said.
People looking for other assistance, such as applying for a benefit can do all the application online and clients can create a secure online user profile through "My Account". Once this is done, they can apply for assistance, check their details, book an appointment or print off information. With more opportunities to come prepared for an interview, clients will have more time to discuss their situation and ask about other services when they met with staff.
People with internet access at home can also use the online application service, but having kiosks onsite will be helpful for people who don't have access to a computer.
Mrs Chisnall says while online services will add value, people who aren't computer savvy and prefer to apply for help by seeing a Case Manager are welcome to do that.
