Recreation Centre prepares for big Term 1 programme
January 17th, 2011
[by David Armstrong]
The Motueka Recreation Centre has put together its first term programme, aiming to build on the growing interest in its use following the major facility upgrade completed last year and opened in November (read our story here).
One new offering is Tuesday evening's indoor softball competition, to go with the indoor netball on Mondays and indoor volleyball on Wednesdays. MRC manager Jody Maru invites anyone to get together with friends, families or workplaces to create teams and to register them in the competitions.
The old favourite roller hockey returns this year following the completion of the expanded international-standard rink, and a new addition is a roller derby competition, being organised by other people but hosted by the Recreation centre.
Jody says that since the rennovated facility was opened the staff have been allowing the busy holiday period to pass while getting "fired up" ready for a big term one effort. The holiday programme is still running, but the Term 1 programme, to begin in February, has now been published (you can read it here) and they are taking enrollments for classes and new competitions. All registrations are available from the front counter.
Jody says use of the expanded gym area has grown, and many holiday makers have been using it on a casual basis for the past weeks. The new facilities, with the larger number of machines, air conditioning and TV screens, are proving very popular.
