Land care camp to clean up Mountain Valley Centre
January 16th, 2011
Pokororo will host a week-long gathering of energetic people from around the world - what could be termed a live-in working bee - to help with Land-Care at Mountain Valley Centre.
Organiser Katerina Seligman says the helpers will be working on the control of invasive pest plants on what is otherwise a beautiful property, which includes a QE II protected bush block.
"Sycamore and blackberry infestations are particular problems," Katerina says. "WWOOFers and other helpers are welcome, and anyone with a chain saw or scrub-cutter is particularly welcome!"
The working camp will operate from Monday 31st January through to Sunday 6th February 2011. Participants will also have the opportunity to join extra activities such as music, meditation, yoga, construction of a light-weight hiking stove, a seminar on climate science, a presentation on natural learning and other areas of interest.
The Mountain Valley Centre is located in the Motueka Valley half an hour from Motueka. It has spectacular views, a beautiful block of native bush, and a pristine river close by.
"If you would like to participate in this project please contact us," Katerina says. "We have basic camping and indoor facilities, with limited ablutions. The property is on Graham Valley Road, Pokororo, the access road to the Kahurangi National Park."
