Entries invited for SeniorNet's 2011 photo competition

March 15th, 2011

Entries are now open for this year's photo competition and exhibition, to be run during June by the SeniorNet Motueka Digital Interest Group in conjunction with the Motueka Festival of Lights.

The competition and subsequent exhibition is in its fourth year and is fast becoming one of Motueka's most popular events. Last year, as part of the Festival of Lights, there were over 500 entries, many of them outstanding. The judges chose 349 of them to display in the museum and Muses Cafe throughout the festival, and about 800 people in total attended the exhibition.

The event is also a boon for the fast-growing Motueka Camera Club, with members taking out many of the prizes, which were announced at the opening of the Festival of Lights. There are seven categories in the competition, and entries are chosen and mounted by SeniorNet members in what has become a very time-intensive task. Local businesses donate the prizes.

The photos are on display from June 18th to July 29th. Entries close by May 20th. Competitors may enter up to 3 photos in a category, and a separate entry form is needed for each photo. Photos may be black & white or colour. The judge(s) will be from outside the district.

The mounting of the event is supported through grants by the Motueka Community Board and Creative Communities Tasman, as well as local businesses.
