Desperate pipfruit orchardists banding together

October 8th, 2011

Desperate and disillusioned Nelson pipfruit orchardists are reactivating their old fruitgrower associations in a bid to press for change to the way their industry operates, according to a Nelson Mail article.

Faced with a third consecutive season of losses, and feeling powerless under the present Pipfruit NZ structure, growers have relaunched the Mahana Fruitgrowers Association, which has been renamed Growlink Tasman, and are in the process of doing the same in Motueka.

A committee had been formed to prepare for an annual general meeting next month, which would formally bring the association out of recess. It had sufficient left-over funds to kickstart the association without levying members.
