Dressage group finds a strong following
May 4th, 2011
[by David Armstrong]
The recently formed Motueka Dressage group has hit on a winner, with its resurrected winter event series proving very popular among horse and pony riders in the district.
Last Sunday it held the second event in its series at Marchwood Park, at which a large number of people of all ages and expertise competed on horses, ponies and hacks. The next event will be held early in July.
The success of the series so far has been due largely to enthusiast Sue Clark and her organising colleagues Camille Nelson, Jan Morice and Karen Rhind, and the sponsor Bin Inn. Motueka Online too will claim a little of the credit as Sue has used the group's page on this website as a cost-free way to publicise and organise events. (See that page here).
The website has provided the entry forms for each event, then the draws and schedules, and finally the results. Together with a bank account to which entry fees are paid, the whole organisational side has been done with a cost-free online option - surely a lesson from which other groups could learn.
And the dressage competitors and friends have used the website for information a great deal. During the month of April (after the April event and leading up to last Sunday's competition) the dressage page of Motueka Online was accessed 311 times, making it the third-most visited page of the website. The entry forms were downloaded by 70 people (they were available offline for those without computers).
Such has been the growth in interest that the group now has significant funds they can use for further activities and events. Well done, Sue.
