Easier access to TDC building staff in Motueka

November 2nd, 2011
[TDC press release]

Residents of Golden Bay and greater Motueka will soon be able to call on the services of a Building Consent Officer in their local Council offices.

Each Thursday, designers, builders or residents will be able to visit their Council offices and have their questions answered on the spot. The officer will work from Golden Bay one week and Motueka the following week. The service is offered on a trial basis, the service starts in Takaka on Thursday 3 November and Motueka from 10 November.

Coordinator of Building Control Phil Hilleard says the service aims to make the building consent process as straightforward as possible.

"The Tasman District Council is keenly aware of the frustrations sometimes experienced by residents when trying to get building. Better access to the qualified staff will demystify the consent process and reduce frustration.

"If you are a designer, builder or a resident of these regions you can make an appointment and get definitive advice as to what is needed and how to proceed to make the whole consent process run more smoothly," he said.

Residents whose homes require compliance for work already completed are also encouraged to get in touch. Appointments can be made at either service centre or by phoning Takaka or Motueka .
