Sales increase at annual Art Group exhibition

February 2nd, 2011

The Motueka Art Group's annual January exhibition at the Chanel Art Centre was a resounding success, resulting in more than half the 200-plus paintings on display being purchased by locals and many visitors.

The exhibition began on January 5th and ran through to the 28th. We wrote about the launch and subsequent open days in this article, and some photos are shown below.

Organisers say that although actual visitor numbers appeared to be about average, more paintings than ever were sold this year, so the work on display must be more appealing and of higher standard.

"Over half the 80 members had paintings on display and the majority of those managed a sale, but those who didn't will be encouraged by the overwhelming success and will be just as enthusiastic next year," said spokeswoman Marion Painter.

"Over the last few years much of the hard work in organising the exhibition has been undertaken by Heather and Alan Tait. The group is hugely grateful for this effort and we sincerely acknowledge their amazing energy and enthusiasm. However the enthusiasm has been contagious and there is now a large 'committee' of people willing to get stuck in and help."

Marion said the Motueka Art Group would like to express their thanks to the shops and businesses in town who contributed by displaying art in their windows as part of the publicity. "Thanks also to members of the community who have shown their support by visiting the exhibition and especially to those who have made purchases."

The Group is also grateful to the TDC for a generous grant this year to fund the purchase of new advertising banners.
