Two more winning article contributors chosen

June 1st, 2011
[by David Armstrong]

Our monthly Take Note prizes for best articles submitted to Motueka Online during May were won by one experienced writer, Coralie Smith, and one budding journalist, Will Garland.

Coralie won her $20 gift card from Take Note for her detailed report, including her own photos, of the May meeting of the Historical Association and launch of the association's latest historical journal, which you can read here. (The article was published first here and then reprinted in The Guardian.)

Will won the same prize for his account published yesterday of the recognition of his classmate, Peter Everett, in the upcoming Youth Volunteer awards, for his organisation of the "Sandcastles for Christchurch" fundraiser. Read his account here

Will's contribution should be the first of many from several High School students who are interested in writing for the media. Discussions with teachers and some students there are leading to a mutual realisation that Motueka Online can provide a professional and accessible publication outlet for young writers with stories about our community, as well as providing a much-needed voice of younger people on this website.

It is hoped that a specialist writing group or journalist club within the school will foster a new generation of people who want to tell the stories of the Motueka community and people. This development may also encourage other aspiring writers and reporters of all ages to contribute news items for this, New Zealand's largest, community website.
