All ready to go for Starlight Parade 2010

November 26th

There's just a week to go before the floats start rolling onto High Street for the 11th annual Christmas Parade. Registrations are rolling in there will be a few surprises this year for sure, perhaps some from the new Kiwiana category, says organiser Jacqui Taylor of Our Town Motueka.

"It's definitely a night for locals to come out and enjoy what is great about Motueka, meet friends and family and get into the festive spirit before the summer rush starts," she says in OTM's November edition of the Streetlines newsletter.

The Friday 3rd December parade procession starts at 8.30pm, but floats will line up at Sportspark Motueka at 7.30pm. The parade route takes floats northward via Talbot Street, then turning into Pah Street, then down High Street into entrance of New World. High Street will be closed closed from 8.00 – 10.00pm.

Pre-parade entertainment includes family entertainment at Whitwells Carpark. From 7.30pm there will be face painting and balloon art, and a Merry go Round and Ferris Wheel will operate from 5.30pm. Food stalls will be sited at Whitwells carpark and Lower Wallace St.

Whitwells carpark will be closed from 5.30pm on Friday, and Jacqui advises business owners and staff to use parking in other parts of town on the day.

"We're encouraging businesses to stay open until the procession commences," Jacqui says. "Many owners have indicated they will support this. We are promoting an opportunity to come to town a bit earlier, do some early Christmas shopping, give the kids treat and then get your 'possie' for parade viewing.
