Voting time commences for local body elections

All Tasman residents and ratepayers should have received their voting papers over the last week and now have until noon on Saturday October 9th to make their decisions on who they wish to represent them.
Not only do Tasman people have the opportunity to choose their Mayor and Councillors, they can also contribute to the make-up of the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board. The residents of Motueka also have a Community Board to elect.
Accompanying the voting papers is a comprehensive candidate information pack listing all the candidates, providing voters with an introduction to the candidates information.
Residents who have not received a voting pack may have missed out because they are not registered to vote, or have not updated their postal address. These people can apply to go on the Parliamentary Roll or update their details up until 8 October 2010 by:
- Ringing the Electoral Enrolment Centre on ;
- Accessing the website www.elections.org.nz; or
- Completing an enrolment form at their nearest postal outlet.
Anyone who has not received voting papers may also apply for a special vote. Special votes can be made at the Council office in Richmond right up until the close of the polls at noon on 9 October 2010. Please ring if you would like a special vote sent to you, or any other election issue.
Residents should be aware that all voting papers have to be received at the Council by noon on 9 October to count. If mailing your vote it wise to post it by 6 October to ensure the papers are received on time.
