Laura Mueller wins a 2010 regional Volunteer Youth Award
June 18th
The community work of Motueka High School year 13 student Laura Mueller was acknowledged at the recent Tasman Volunteer Youth Awards ceremony held in Nelson. This was in addition to the awards to Tara Forde and Motueka's Vinnies, which we reported on here at the time. (Laura's award was only now brought to our notice.)
Laura received an award for the time and effort she puts in, volunteering at the Star Dance Academy. Laura teaches many styles of dance to 11-18 year olds. Her work includes not only taking classes in Motueka and Nelson but travelling to Blenheim for teaching workshops and time outside of class preparing choreography. This can take up to eight hours a week in her already busy life.
Laura is a student role model at Motueka High School, where she is a House Captain, leader of the Amnesty International group, member of the arts committee and a student mentor. Laura also achieves highly academically. She lives in Marahau.
She also played a part in the creation of Motueka Online, being one of the four graphics design students who designed posters, bookmarks and banners for the website. (See that story here. That's her on the right of the photo in that story.)
