Appeal for blankets and warm clothing
April 15th, 2010
Te Awhina Marae has launched a project to gather winter clothing and blankets for people and whanau in our community who may be struggling to make ends meet and keep warm as winter approaches.
Many families find it difficult to keep warm during winter, particularly as power charges rise. Also seasonal workers in the district working in orchards and staying in temporary accommodation - and particularly those from Pacific Islands not used to a "real winter" - find it a difficult time as the harvesting season moves toward May and June.
Nellie Bell, a health worker at the Whanau Ora - O - Te Awhina Marae, is overseeing the project and hopes the collections will begin as soon as possible.
If you have some spare clean blankets or winter clothing to donate, plesae drop them off at the Marae at 133 Pah Street, or phone Nellie or Madhu at and arrangements can be made to pick them up from your home.
