Motueka finalist in KNZB "best town" award
November 5th
Motueka is up against Pukekohe as one of the two finalists in the Keep New Zealand Beautiful (KNZB) Best Town competition. The winner will be determined by public voting via KNZB's website, and you can vote by clicking on this link, registering and picking Motueka.
Voting closes on December 4th, and the winning town gains a monetary prize of $3000 to be spent on improved town signage. The other benefits of winning would be national publicity for our town, which then would encourage visitors to holiday in the region and some people to come and live here.
Keep Motueka Beautiful works very hard to develop impressive walking tracks along the coast and around the estuary and inlet, and is about to work with the council on a new walkway beside Wharf Road. It has developed the Adopt-A-Plot estuary restoration project. It also operates the litter cart in the shopping area and is involved in many smaller projects around town to keep the urban environs looking neat and tidy.
KMB provided KNZB an excellent summary of the facts about Motueka, its population spread, climate and industries, which are presented on the competition website.

I got my family on board and between us, they commandeered about 60 to 70 votes for the Best Town, i.e. Motueka! I'm challenging everyone else to do the same.

Am still going hard for Motueka. Have some big Rugby League members on board encouraging their fans & fellow players to support us, and the difference has been exciting. We have gone from being 73 votes behind to just 20 votes. I've asked Damien O'Connor & Kevin Hague to put it on their Facebook pages also, Damien has obliged already.
Let's keep the ball rolling!! It would be SUCH a great achievement to pull off if we won, so good for the town. We could use some of the prize of signage to put "Best NZ Town 2010" at the town entrance!!
