Motueka service providers invited to advise Nelson Bays PHO
November 4th
Nelson Bays Primary Health (NBPH) is inviting community-based organisations to nominate themselves to represent the Motueka community as a member of the NBPH Alliance Governance Group (AGG).
This group will be established, for a 12-month trial to begin with, as an advisory group to the NBPH Board. It is envisioned that the AGG will provide a forum where advice and guidance can be sought on the strategic objectives and activities of NBPH, and where community groups can be heard and involved regarding issues in primary health care.
In this way community groups can have an influence on how money is spent and activities directed by NBPH in primary health care to improve the health outcomes for our region. The group will be chaired and supported by the Community Representatives on the NBPH Board. Currently they include Judene Edgar, Maria Briggs and Philip Chapman.
There will be 10 meetings per year, held during the day and based at the NBPH offices in Nelson. Remote access to these meetings can also be arranged if necessary. The time and travel expenses for the meetings will be reimbursed to the nominated agencies and meetings will accommodate remote access as required.
Nominations should be sent to by 24th November. The voting process will take place in the first three weeks of December and the successful candidates will be announced mid-January. The voting process will use an on-line service. The first meeting will take place in February 2011.
Organisations that will be considered include those community-based non-government organisations who are signatories to the NBPH Alliance, which is an agreement for a shared response to developing primary health care in our region between Family Start Nelson and NBPH. Copies of the Alliance document can be obtained from Jane Kinsey or any of the NBPH Board Community Representatives.
The nomination process involves sending in a summary (up to 250 words) of how your organisation can contribute to the AGG for NBPH. Please include and describe how your organisation's core business aligns with current primary health care priorities. A
Eleven nominations will be included in a ballot where people can then vote for seven members, using the distribution list for the Be Well newsletter and other key forums. Ideally, member organisations will provide a good representation of age, gender, ethnicity, regional and key strategic health priorities.
"We are keen to achieve geographical coverage on this forum," says Jane, "and strongly believe that having a Motueka-based organisation being a representative on the group would be an advantage to ensure the needs of Motueka are addressed."
