Historical Association still celebrating 30 years
October 30th 2010
[by Coralie Smith]
The Motueka and Districts Historical Association (information here) is still celebrating 30 years since the Association began, with this month's meeting presenting a slide show of scanned photos from photographs taken by Rana McGlashen over the 30 years.
Coralie Smith had scanned the photos into her computer and used the Windows slideshow programme through a data projector so that they could be viewed on the wall. This was useful for the sight impaired members. Accompanied by pan pipe music we watched and remembered trips taken to all corners of the district - from Awaroa to Dovedale, Rotoiti to Riwaka. Pokororo, Pangatotara, Jacketts Island- you name it we have been there.
Also included were cemetery visits and the major event in 1: the 150th celebrations of the European settlers arriving when the association organised and took part in a reenactment.
Several other members had brought their photo albums along and the afternoon was spent reminiscing. Where to from here? There are a new generation of historians coming along so it may have to be repeat trips to see the changes to places we have been.
