Sea level rising at Nelson

Yesterday I met with our Ward Councillors at their quarterly "surgery". Only 3 members of the public turned up but we 3 had enough to discuss to fill two hours.

What I found interesting is that Councillors are being issued with contour maps of the Motueka, Mapua/Ruby Bay and Richmond urban areas. The contours lines measuring heights half a metre steps are to provide them with infomation on the possible effect of sea level rise.

Apparently measurements have been taken in Nelson and in about 10 years, the mean sea level has risen by 7 centimetres.
