Fruit and vegies for sale - Please Don't Squeeze!

March 23rd, 2011
by Shirley Frater

I find it frustrating to see people particually in the supermarkets squeezing the produce. I watched a lady squeeze 14 dark Advocados one day and then not buy any.

The stone fruit, pears, apples, banannas, tomatoes - the list goes on. It seems to be a pleasure for people to squeeze. Pity help the customer who makes a purchase after the hand workers have been. Bruises and stem punctures are not good value and a waste of good produce.

The business that allows damaged produce to be sold is the loser as many of us are very selective where we buy. Maybe big video screens could be installed, or better still we have the courage to ask people not to SQUEEZE!!

More information on how to be look for the age of ripeness or maturity in produce and to become a better shopper may help. It's common sense to buy the Avos green and hard, place them on the bench for a few days, then when dark put in the fridge and one is able to eat it without cutting out all the rotten bits.

That's my moan - have more fruit police and save waste.
